Accordion, vocals
Sue Baines is a dynamic accordionist and singer whose home base has been Vancouver since 1994 where she has been performing, teaching music and music therapy, and working as a music therapist. Like her mentor Maestro Jack Velker, Sue’s playing crosses into all genres and styles. She plays a 32-bass Hohner for the high soulful and sometimes squeaky voice needed for some tunes and pulls out her 80-bass Regal when more oomph and reeds are required.
Sue is fearless in her shredding solos and endlessly inspiring in her passion for playing music. Self-taught, Sue’s style is eclectic and sometimes eccentric. She has shared the stage with accordion aficionados Howard Schmenge Chapman, Ana Bon-Bon, Katheryn Petersen, Alison Jenkins and Debra Peters for amazing accordion adventures. From playing with her duo Double Rainbow Ensemble to local band Mojo Zydeco to solo performances at Dîner en Blanc and Bastille Day Vancouver, Sue’s accordion playing and singing continues to impress, astonish, and entertain her audiences.
Sue leant her considerable talents to many Rusty Creek recordings and live performances in her time with us and we cherish those memories. Thanks again Sue.
